The Graduate Institute for Social Research and Cultural Studies was
formed in 2002. The Institute also started its Ph.D. program in 2003.
The program represents a significant move by the University toward
developing itself as a full-brown liberal arts institution.
Interdisciplinary in purpose, the program is also the first of its kind
in Taiwan. Grounded in social research and cultural studies, the program
is broadened with a commitment to philosophical and historical inquiry.
In an intellectual setting where disciplinary boundaries are easily
crossed, students learn to share original concern and practice creative
inquiry.
